Black Scallop Bugleweed is a compact spreading herbaceous perennial that forms a dense carpet making it an excellent choice for a groundcover. The richly colored dark maroon-purple to near black foliage with scalloped edges grows rosettes.  Reddish stems support showy spikes of lacy, deep violet flowers in spring.  Flowers best in part sun and moist, well-drained soils.  It can be an aggressive spreader.  Good powdery mildew resistance.

Bugleweed has medicinal properties that is traditionally used for the treatment of wounds or sores and arresting hemorrhages.  It is also used for coughs, fever, and normalizing the heart rate.  Do not use if pregnant.*
