Eastern Red Cedar is a dense coniferous tree with a broad conical habit and horizontal branching.  The aromatic dark blue-green foliage is scale-like with some bronzing in winter.  Female Red Cedars can produce fleshy black seed cones.  Best planted in full sun and well-drained soils.  Drought Tolerant once established.

Eastern Red Cedar has been used as a folk medicine to treat colds, coughs, and general chest complaints.  The berries are mildly antiseptic and can be chewed for mouth sores.*
