Black Cohosh is a large native perennial with deeply cut dark green tripinnate foliage that maintains its color.  Tall wiry flower spikes sporting numerous fragrant white flowers go up in late summer into fall attracting butterflies and pollinators.  Best bloom in rich moisture-retentive soils.  Black Cohosh is drought tolerant and has insect repellent properties.

Actaea Racemosa is host plant for the Spring Azure, Holly Blue, and Appalachian Azure butterflies.
