 Heritage River Birch is a fast-growing, medium-sized native deciduous tree that can have a single or multiple trunks.  It’s dark green leathery double-toothed leaves turn yellow in fall, and its attractive bark is a salmon to reddish-brown and exfoliates to show a creamy white interior in winter. Grows best in rich moist acidic soils.  Extremely resistant to birch borer and good resistance to leaf spot.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low maintenance.  It can take clay and poorly drained soils.  Weakened birches are vulnerable to the bronze birch borer which can be fatal Some susceptibility to aphids, leaf miner and iron chlorosis in high pH soils.
