Royal Purple Smoketree is a large multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with an upright loose-spreading habit.  The round leaves emerge rich maroon and gradually darken to purplish-red or purple-black in summer and holds the color in fall.  Dramatic airy purple-pink hair billows from the tiny yellow flowers from spring to summer attracting butterflies.  Best blooms occur in full sun and well-drained soil.
