Pink Velour Crape Myrtle: Royal Velvet
Pink Velour Crape Myrtle is a compact multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with exfoliating bark and unique color. The foliage emerges wine red and matures to dark purplish-green before turning orange-brown in fall. The large vibrant pink panicles bloom in summer on new wood. Best color in full sun and rich well-drained soil. Highly resistant to powdery mildew.
Royal Velvet was the original name for this cultivar, though now it is commonly sold as Pink Velour.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low Maintenance. Water Regularly. Prune back in spring before bloom to promote flowers. It can be susceptible to leaf spot and powdery mildew. Watch for aphids and scale.
