Winter's Fire Camellia is a small evergreen shrub with a prostrate spreading habit and glossy leaves that stay dark green year-round.  The large medium pink flowers with yellow stamen have a spicy fragrance that can bud in summer and bloom in fall, or may hold the bloom until late winter into early spring.  The flowers attract butterflies.  Best blooms occur in partial sun and acidic, well-drained soil.  Can be used as groundcover unless tied to a vertical support.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS:  Low maintenance.  Too much water retention can increase susceptibility to fungal diseases, including root rot, black mold, blight, canker, anthracnose, and leaf spots.  Watch for aphids and spider mites.   Yellowing leaves indicate acidity too low.  When flowers are too dense to fully open, prune dead or weak wood.
