Avondale Chinese Redbud is a small deciduous tree with multiple trunks and rounded crown.  Glossy green heart-shaped leaves turn yellow in fall.  The dark rose-purple flowers are larger than the Eastern Redbud, blooming heavily on bare branches in early spring before the foliage comes in and attracting butterflies The bean-like seed pods follow the flowers.   Prefers partial sun and rich well-drained soils with consistent moisture.  Tolerates deer and Black Walnuts.
