Commander Hay Hens and Chicks is a mat-forming evergreen succulent with flat blue-green foliage that matures to red with green tips and grow in rosettes.  The mother Rosset(hen) spreads out with horizontal stems to seed offsets (chicks).  Infrequently in summer a short stalk rises from the hen sporting clusters of pink or yellow flowers. The hen dies after flowering, giving space for the chicks to grow.  Best color with full sun and dry to medium well-drained soils.  Drought and heat tolerant once established.
